Animal Science I: A "Moo"ving Experience

Course Overview:
Students in this class have a love for animals of all sizes and learn the basics of animal physiology, breeding, nutrition, and care of animals in preparing for an animal science career. Students will have a weekly Livestock Breed ID, will go on at least one field trip, to learn more about agriculture, and have a 20-hour project that takes place outside of class, related to agriculture, called SAE.

Animal Science I Course Announcements:
SAE Projects are due on 2/15, 3/1, and 5/30 Livestock Breed ID Quizzes take place every third Monday. Livestock Breed IDentification: Each week students will investigate livestock breeds. They will learn the common and scientific name, and identify characteristics of each breed. Every other Monday they are tested on livestock breeds. Each of the quizzes will be cumulative. Students are allowed to use their Livestock Breed ID cards on all but the last quiz. Classroom Assignments: The "Daily Agenda" board AND "Due Dates" board in class are updated daily in order to keep students aware of the upcoming events; be sure to place the dates in your planners. Portfolios: Collection of work students have completed during each unit. Students will be given the material that will be included in their portfolios the day that review guides are completed in class. Portfolios will be due on the following dates: 2/11, 3/11, 4/9, 5/1, and 5/20. Supervised Agricultural Experience (SAE): SAE is a major component of the class (25% of the student's overall grade). As a class we will discuss, in detail, the components of the project, but you need to familiarize yourself with the weekly requirements. SAE due dates are as follows: 2/15, 3/1, and 5/30 |
